a space to hopefully spark ideas and things to consider when booking a session or planning a wedding

tricks of the trade

helpful tips and tricks.

what to wear

most importantly, make sure you are comfortable! I want you to be able to move, explore, and play, whether that means wearing boots to splash in the mud, wearing layers to battle the cold, if you’re not comfortable, I promise it’ll show in photos.

next thing is to avoid logos and branding. your photos will turn out more timeless this way.

keep your location and vibe in mind when choosing your colour palette. if we’re planning to go for a hike in nature or visiting the concrete jungle, neutrals will edit best. if this feels blah to you (I promise its not!) think about mixing up textures like knits, weaves, linens, silks, etc. if we’re planning to go somewhere with bright colours like a waterpark or an ice cream stand, maybe brights aren’t such a bad idea. just make sure they’re colours you actually like and wear on a regular basis!

steam any items that might wrinkle easily (see above for silks and linens)

if you’re afraid of sweating, wear something sleeveless, use deodorant or book for a cooler month.

depending where we’re going, maybe consider that your clothing might get dirty or wet!

it’s all about timing!

what time should we book a session for?

something to keep in mind about your session is if it’s outside you should definitely consider the sun position and where you’re shooting and the vibe you want.

“golden hour” the hour and a half window before the sun sets, or after it rises will give you the softest, most even, golden lighting. generally the most flattering for portraits, as well as “blue hour” which is right after the sun sets but there’s still enough light to shoot.

one of the great benefits of doing a “sunset sneak out” on your wedding day!

if you’re looking for harsh shadows and more experimental light, the afternoon is great, you just want to avoid high noon as much as you can, as the shadows will sit on the lower half of your face. 3pm is usually pretty fun for directional light!
