Kathleen and Adith’s wedding day was a celebration of everything they love most: community, incredible food, the energy of downtown Toronto, and the people who have shaped their lives together. Held on a hot summer day in the heart of the city, their wedding at Second Floor Events felt effortlessly modern while remaining deeply personal—a perfect reflection of the couple themselves.
The day began at the Sonder Hotel in downtown Toronto, where Kathleen got ready surrounded by her closest friends. Rather than waiting until the ceremony to see each other, Kathleen and Adith chose to share a private first look before the festivities began. Afterward, we spent time wandering through downtown Toronto together, exploring the city's streets, alleyways, and architecture for portraits that felt authentic to their relationship. Both Kathleen and Adith thrive on being surrounded by the city they love, and incorporating Toronto into their wedding photographs felt like an important part of telling their story. Afterwards, we joined their group of family and friends who were waiting and excited to congratulate the couple in a courtyard across from their venue, which is where we mingled and took their group portraits before the event officially began.
One of my favourite moments happened just before the ceremony. As Kathleen and Adith made their way back to the venue with their respective bridal parties, we paused for a moment in a downtown alleyway where everyone danced and sang along to classic Hilary Duff songs blasting from portable speakers. It was spontaneous, joyful, and exactly the kind of lighthearted energy that defined the entire day. By the time they arrived at Second Floor Events, any lingering nerves before the ceremony had been replaced by laughter and excitement.
Inside the venue, guests were welcomed into a ceremony space glowing with candlelight, fairy lights, and large industrial windows overlooking the city. Community was at the heart of every aspect of the ceremony. Friends played meaningful roles throughout, including a violinist who performed as Kathleen walked down the aisle and a close friend who officiated the ceremony. One particularly beautiful moment included the placement of a traditional red thread necklace, honouring cultural traditions while blending seamlessly with the modern celebration.
Because portraits were completed before the ceremony, Kathleen and Adith were able to fully enjoy cocktail hour surrounded by their favourite people. As self-proclaimed food lovers, they were especially excited to share a thoughtfully curated buffet-style dinner with their guests. Their guest book table also featured jars of “Hot Buzz,” their own hot honey brand, now a Toronto staple, as wedding favours—a detail that perfectly captured their entrepreneurial spirit and love of food.
After an emotional first dance, both Kathleen and Adith changed into traditional garments before cutting their cake and celebrating late into the evening. Surrounded by warm candlelight, exposed brick, and the vibrant energy of downtown Toronto, their wedding felt modern, heartfelt, and deeply connected to the people and city they love most.
